Security Cameras
Security Camera Systems in The Palisades
To supplement the needs of our community security the Master Board has invested in security cameras. These cameras will be installed in the Common Open Space (COS) areas. These are areas open to the pubic in open fields. The camera system selected was the Flock Camera system (https://www.flocksafety.com).
The installation of the cameras is scheduled to occur between January 9th to the 16th, weather permitting. After the cameras are installed, it will take two to three weeks for the cameras to be activated. UPDATE: Due to the cold weather the installation of the cameras has been extended. Currently 70% of the cameras have been installed and activated. The remaining cameras should be installed and activated by mid-February.
The COS areas where the camara systems will be installed are areas along Grand Palisades Parkway X Oleander Drive, Grand Palisades Parkway X Youngblood Road, Grand Palisades Parkway X Hawkwatch Lane/Kalabash Road, Shelburne Farms Drive X Youngblood Road and Daufuskie Drive X Youngblood Road. These areas were selected after a site survey of The Palisades. The sites were selected due to the high traffic volume in these areas.
The Flock Camera System is one of the preferred systems for law enforcement accessibility. Selected law enforcement agencies will be able to access the systems should the need arise. The cameras will also allow law enforcement agencies to access previous videos to aid in their investigations. Every time the system is accessed there is a log created. No one can anonymously access the camera system. Access to the system is very limited and The Palisades selects who can access the system.
The system is not monitored 24/7 in real time, playback of videos is available to authorized local law enforcement, the videos are stored for 30 days and then deleted. The Palisades owns the data and will not be sharing the data with any non-law enforcement third-party.
Some of our Flock Cameras will also have a license plate reading (LPR) capability. This is beneficial for the following reasons:
- Law Enforcement can quickly identify suspicious and/or vehicles of interest. This increases the likelihood a person of interest can be identified in a timely manner.
- Provides The Palisades with traffic analytic capability recognized by NCDOT and the City of Charlotte.
- We will be able to provide a count of vehicles from South Carolina who use the Grand Palisades Parkway as a commuting route.
The Master Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions for Palisades grants the Master Board the authority to provide security monitoring for The Palisades per section 6.8 "Rules and regulations regarding security and monitoring systems."
